Shortly before she died, Grace Marie had requested a drawing of the Jesus Crucified. After her death, I began this painting, intending to place that image in the work. Instead, as the central rose opened, its inner space deepened in purples and reds. Two transfigured shapes began to take form there. Vibrant hope, and a design not of my planning, emerged. The dynamic of the Paschal mystery took over this painting of Graced Roses.
